Polymeric ferric sulfate is a high-quality, iron salt inorganic polymer flocculant that is suitable for water pH ranges of 4-11 and 6-9. After addition, it forms large flocs with fast sedimentation rate, and has significant effects on removing COD, BOD, TP, and heavy metal ions from water. It has a significant purification effect on micro polluted, algae containing, low-temperature and low turbidity raw water, and is particularly effective in purifying high turbidity raw water. The dosage is small, the cost is low, and the treatment cost can be saved by 20% -50%. There are two types of polymeric iron sulfate: liquid polymeric iron sulfate and solid polymeric iron sulfate. The total iron content of liquid polymeric iron sulfate is 11%, and the solid product has a coagulation effect when 21% polymeric iron sulfate is added to wastewater. It has good removal effects on COD and phosphate in wastewater, and the color removal rate of wastewater is much higher than that of polyaluminum sulfate. However, sometimes the wastewater quality turns yellow and the pH value decreases after the addition of polymeric iron sulfate. What are the reasons for this?
The reasons for the yellowing of wastewater after adding polyiron are as follows:
1. The trivalent iron ions produced by hydrolysis of polymerized iron sulfate after being added to wastewater have coagulation effect. However, if the iron ions are not completely reacted, the polymerized iron sulfate wastewater may turn yellow and remain in the wastewater. When the residual iron ions in the water body are greater than 0.03ppm, it will appear slightly yellow. However, this slight yellow color generally does not affect water quality, it only affects perception.
2. When the pH value in wastewater exceeds the precipitation range of iron, trivalent iron ions will accumulate in the water, causing the water to turn yellow. Usually, this situation can be neutralized by adding alkali to form a colloidal precipitate of iron hydroxide. Adding alkali not only adjusts the pH value of the wastewater but also has a coagulation aid effect.
3. Polyferric sulfate is a weakly acidic polymer, and its addition can lower the pH value of the water to a certain extent. Therefore, excessive addition can also cause a slight yellowing of the water. To prevent water from turning yellow due to the addition of polymeric ferric sulfate, detection and treatment can be carried out based on the amount of product added, acid-base neutralization of the water, and the amount of trivalent iron ions in the water.
A small amount of iron ions does not affect human health, on the contrary, it has a blood nourishing effect, while the residue of aluminum ions can have a long-term impact on the human brain and various serious diseases such as cancer. Therefore, in the use of water treatment coagulants, more and more companies are using polymeric ferric sulfate instead of polyaluminum chloride, polymeric aluminum sulfate, aluminum sulfate, etc. as coagulants and purifiers.
