PAC is mainly used for wastewater treatment in smelting, chemical industry, printing and dyeing, papermaking, coal washing, steel mills, oil fields, oil refining, leather, radioactive wastewater, metal processing, coal preparation, food, dyes, etc. It is also widely used in domestic water, industrial water and pure water pretreatment. In addition to adjusting the dosage, addition method and wastewater pH value mentioned above, the following measures can be taken to cause poor PAC flocculation treatment:

1. Optimize stirring conditions
Control stirring intensity: Insufficient stirring will prevent PAC from mixing with wastewater fully, affecting the flocculation effect; while excessive stirring will destroy the flocs that have been formed. The speed and stirring time of the stirring equipment should be adjusted according to the actual situation. Generally, stir quickly for 1-3 minutes to make PAC quickly and evenly dispersed in the wastewater, and then stir slowly for 5-15 minutes to promote the formation and growth of flocs.
Choose appropriate stirring equipment and methods: Different stirring equipment and methods have an impact on the formation and stability of flocs. For example, when using mechanical stirring, you can choose a suitable blade shape and size to achieve a better stirring effect; you can also try to use hydraulic stirring, air stirring, or a combination of multiple stirring methods.
2. Consider compounding of agents
Combined with PAM: PAC, as an inorganic flocculant, is often used in combination with the organic polymer flocculant polyacrylamide (PAM), which can play a synergistic role and improve the flocculation effect. PAM can further increase the size and density of flocs through the bridging effect of its long-chain molecules, making it easier to precipitate. Generally, PAC is added for preliminary coagulation, and then PAM is added for coagulation.
Adding coagulants: In addition to PAM, other coagulants can be added, such as lime, diatomaceous earth, activated carbon, etc. Lime can adjust the pH value of wastewater and provide calcium ions, which helps the formation and precipitation of flocs; diatomaceous earth and activated carbon have a large specific surface area and adsorption performance, which can adsorb pollutants in wastewater and promote the formation and sedimentation of flocs.
3. Pretreatment
Remove large particle impurities: Printing and dyeing wastewater may contain a large amount of large particle impurities such as fibers and yarns, which will affect the flocculation effect of PAC. Pretreatment facilities such as grids, filters or sedimentation tanks can be set up before flocculation treatment to remove large particle impurities and reduce the burden of subsequent flocculation treatment.
Adjust the quality of wastewater: If the wastewater contains too high hardness, heavy metal ions or other interfering substances, it may affect the flocculation effect of PAC. Softening, precipitation, adsorption and other methods can be used to pretreat wastewater to remove or reduce the content of these interfering substances.
4. Strengthen equipment maintenance and management
Clean equipment regularly: Equipment in the PAC flocculation treatment system, such as reaction tanks, sedimentation tanks, pipelines, etc., may accumulate dirt, flocs and other substances during operation, affecting the normal operation and treatment effect of the equipment. The equipment should be cleaned regularly to remove dirt and blockages to ensure the smooth and normal operation of the equipment.
Check equipment operating parameters: Regularly check the operating parameters of mixing equipment, dosing equipment, pumps, etc., such as speed, flow, pressure, etc., to ensure the normal operation of the equipment. Timely discover and handle equipment failures to avoid poor flocculation treatment effects due to equipment failures.
5. Adopt other auxiliary measures
Adjust water temperature: Water temperature has a certain effect on the flocculation effect of PAC. Generally, the flocculation effect is better when the water temperature is 20-30℃. If the water temperature of printing and dyeing wastewater is too low or too high, heating or cooling measures can be considered to adjust the water temperature to an appropriate range.
Add microbial flocculants: Microbial flocculants have the advantages of being safe, non-toxic, and non-secondary pollution. They may achieve better flocculation effects when used in combination with PAC or alone. Some microbial flocculants can adsorb and flocculate pollutants in wastewater through flocculants produced by biological metabolism, thereby improving the treatment effect.
