The alkalinity (also known as basicity) in PAC indicates the amount of OH present in the product. So, how should PAC alkalinity be controlled? According to flocculation principles, the more hydrocarbon groups a product contains, the better its flocculation ability. Excessive hydrocarbon group content can easily lead to precipitation, reducing the product's flocculation ability and even causing instability. Alkalinity should generally be controlled within a range of 50-80%. Because PAC is composed of a mixture containing varying amounts of hydrocarbon groups, the alkalinity measured during production is an average value. Therefore, in actual production, the alkalinity of basic aluminum chloride should not be excessively controlled. Ideally, the alkalinity should be controlled at around 65%, which provides excellent flocculation performance. Excessively high alkalinity can lead to unstable product performance, which is detrimental to its use and storage. Therefore, alkalinity is closely related to flocculation effectiveness and is a crucial control indicator during production. To maintain a certain alkalinity in the product, the [OH]/[Al] ratio must remain constant. The amount of [OH] and [Al] in the product is determined by the addition of raw materials.
