White polyaluminum chloride (PAC), CAS number 1327-41-9, also known as polyaluminum chloride, is a white or milky white powdery fine powder made by spray drying aluminum hydroxide powder and high-purity hydrochloric acid. It is easily hygroscopic and melts in the air. This product has an Al2O3 content between 32% and 35%, a basicity of about 50%, low water insoluble matter, and a transparent aqueous solution due to its low iron content. It is called high-purity iron-free or food-grade PAC [4-5].
White PAC is suitable for drinking water, industrial water, oilfield reinjection water, circulating cooling water, and various wastewater treatments. In the paper industry, it can replace aluminum sulfate as a neutral sizing precipitant, reducing system corrosion and being compatible with calcium carbonate filler [4]. In addition, it is also used in many fields such as sugar decolorization and clarification, tanning, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and precision casting [4-5]. The main production processes for this product include the aluminum metal method and the aluminum hydroxide method, among which the spray drying process has replaced the traditional natural sedimentation method as the mainstream production method [1]. White polyaluminum chloride is a highly efficient water purification agent that can remove bacteria, deodorize, and decolorize. Its dosage is usually less than that of traditional water purification agents [2]. In addition to being used alone, the product can also be used in combination with other agents such as oxidants to treat different water bodies [3]. The product should be stored in a dry environment and should avoid contact with alkaline substances.
