How to understand the hydrolysis degree of anionic polyacrylamide PAM

Author:XINHUAN Source: Date:2024/3/14 11:11:11

Anionic Polyacrylamide(Apam has polar amide groups, which are easily adsorbed on the surface of sediment particles through hydrogen bonding. In addition, anionic polyacrylamide has long molecular chains, with a large order of magnitude of long chains having a huge adsorption surface area in water. Its flocculation effect is good, and long chains can also be used to bridge between flocculent particles, forming large particle flocs and accelerating sedimentation. Professional manufacturers create professional water treatment pharmaceutical quality.

Polyacrylamide PAM is prone to hydrolysis reaction under the action of alkali such as NaOH, causing some polyacrylamide to generate sodium polyacrylate. The sodium acrylate molecule is unstable in water and dissociates into RCOO Na+. Therefore, polyacrylamide hydrolysate is a copolymer of polyacrylamide and sodium polyacrylate. Due to the action of RCOO - (hydroxyl), polyacrylamide hydrolysate becomes an anionic polymer flocculant, while non hydrolyzed polyacrylamide flocculant is a non-ionic polymer flocculant. From the above hydrolysis equation, it can be seen that the partially hydrolyzed products of polyacrylamide have a certain amine odor, which can be used to easily distinguish whether polyacrylamide products are hydrolyzed.

After partial hydrolysis of  Polyacrylamide produced by YuXinHuan, its performance changes from non-ionic to anionic. Under the electrostatic repulsion of RCCO - (hydroxyl) groups, the curly molecular chains on the main chain of polyacrylamide are unfolded and elongated, increasing its adsorption area and enhancing its elevated bridge capacity. Therefore, the flocculation effect of partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide is better than that of non-ionic polyacrylamide.

Anionic Polyacrylamide for treating high turbidity water should generally use partially hydrolyzed products. The sedimentation rate of 100 million liters of polyacrylamide with ultra-high hydrolysis degree (hydrolysis degree refers to the percentage of amide groups converted into hydroxyl groups in the polyacrylamide molecule) is 2-9 times that of non aqueous disintegration. However, products with high or low hydrolysis degree of anionic polyacrylamide have unsatisfactory flocculation effects, as low hydrolysis degree results in weak adsorption bridging ability. If hydrolysis degree is too high, it strengthens the anionic performance of the product and increases its repulsive ability with soil particles. After extensive experiments, it has been confirmed that the ultra-high hydrolysis degree of anionic polyacrylamide should be between 20% and 25%.
